Two Contracts Awarded for West Shore Lake Pontchartrain Project

NEW ORLEANS, LA — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for constructing two major drainage structures for the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain (WSLP) Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction project. WSLP contract 114a will construct drainage structures at Hope Canal and Prescott Canal, which will be key features to ensure that the 18.5-mile-long levee system has effective drainage and can provide 100-year level risk reduction to the area primarily in St. John the Baptist, St. James, and St. Charles Parish.

The over $71.68 million contract for WSLP-114a drainage structures was awarded to Omega Foundation Services of Slaughter, Louisiana. Work will be performed in St. John Parish and St. Charles Parish.

“We are thrilled to award one of the last two contracts of the 2024 fiscal year for the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain Hurricane and Storm Reduction project,” said Col. Cullen Jones, New Orleans District Commander. “USACE remains committed in providing storm surge risk reduction with this project for more than 60,000 people in the St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, and St. James parishes in southeast Louisiana.”

USACE also recently awarded a contract for constructing the 10th levee reach and a pipeline crossing floodwall on the WSLP Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction project. WSLP contract 109 will construct approximately 1 mile of the levee system.

The over $23.27 million contract for WSLP-109 was awarded to Cycle Construction Company, LLC, of Kenner, Louisiana. This section of the levee is approximately 1 mile long. Work will be performed in St. John Parish and St. Charles Parish. The levee elevation will be 8.6 feet.
