Las Vegas Boulevard, Bridger, and Third Street Improvements Begin

LAS VEGAS, NV — Work recently began on Las Vegas Boulevard from Stewart Avenue to Sahara Avenue, Bridger Avenue from 13th Street to Las Vegas Boulevard, and Third Street from Utah to Colorado Avenue. Work will include:
  • Replacing underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drain, gas, fiber optic/smart city infrastructure), traffic signals, medians, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and full-depth pavement
  • Saving and replanting the existing median trees
  • Adding 200 new trees, bus stop access, pedestrian improvements, two new right-turn pockets, and additional illuminated neon signs in the new medians
  • Adding right-turn pockets at the Charleston Boulevard and Stewart Avenue intersections

Work is expected to take three years; work hours will be 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work will begin concurrently on Las Vegas Boulevard at Stewart, Charleston and Oakey Boulevard and work southward. At the same time, work will begin on Bridger at 13th Street and work westward. The first year of work will include removing the existing medians (saving the trees) and doing the underground utility replacements. Drivers should expect lane restrictions and delays; Maryland Parkway and Grand Central Parkway are recommended as alternate routes for north- and south-bound traffic.

The existing waterlines to be replaced are from 1955, the storm drains from 1954, some of the traffic signals from 1965, and the sewer pipe from 1942. This is the largest roadway project in the history of the city of Las Vegas Public Works department.

Las Vegas Paving is the contractor. The city of Las Vegas is managing the project. The estimated total project cost is $125 million, with funding provided by the Southern Nevada Regional Transportation Commission’s Fuel Revenue Indexing tax, Las Vegas Valley Water District, the city of Las Vegas, and the Commission for the Las Vegas Centennial.
